Understanding BMI for Police or Defense Force Jobs
Police and defense jobs place a higher value on physical fitness. If you’re not fit yet – this tool can help you understand how much you need to lose.
Did you know your weight can increase or decrease by up to 2 kg daily? That’s why we can’t judge your fitness just by looking at weight or height alone. For example, someone who’s 6 feet tall could weigh 75 kg or 85 kg and still be healthy.
To make things fair, we use Body Mass Index (BMI). It works for everyone except kids and older adults. BMI helps us see if your weight suits your height.
What do different BMI numbers mean:
- Below 18.5: Too light
- 18.5 to 24.9: Just right
- 25 to 29.9: Too heavy
- 30 or more: Very heavy
Some Police and Defense jobs may disqualify you or ask you to reappear for job exams if you’re too light or very heavy. Always check the job notification carefully.

Tips for Getting Fit
If your BMI is just right, keep doing what you’re doing. If it’s too high:
- Make a plan: Try to lose 0.5-1 kg per month (consult with a doctor before starting any plan).
- Move more: Exercise regularly, including running practice for job tests.
- Eat better: Choose lots of vegetables and less junk food.
- Drink water: Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.
- Sleep well: Not getting enough rest can make you gain weight.
- Keep track: Use our website often to see how you’re doing.
Remember, if you’re new to exercise, talk to a doctor or fitness expert before making big changes.
By following these steps, you can improve your health and boost your chances of qualifying for government jobs. Keep at it, and good luck with your career goals!
